They may be a little battered, but they are still very cute.

We love the 'Tools of my Trade' feature on the Who's Jack blog. Mainly because we are nosey and like to look at other peoples stuff. A bit like the 'Creative Spaces' photos in our Interview posts.

When the Boss makes you dinner....
We all went over to 1973 HQ yesterday where James and Emma made us a pretty amazing dinner. Everyone exchanged secret Santa presents and we all managed to leave without getting drunk (this never happens) It was very civilised and we all wanted to say thanks and give James mega props for the grub!

1973 Loves....Kings Framers
Kings Framers is a stockist of ours in Lewes, its a beautiful shop with choice products and lovely staff. The owner Peta has a great eye for buying and merchandising and we thought her window looked rather good. Her festive display takes a more contemporary approach than most and of course we love the copious amount of 1973 products on show.

1973 Loves..... Niki Pilkington.
Ravensbourne graduate Niki is an incredible talent. Her style of illustration is instantly recognisable amongst a sea of copy cats. Niki's main plan of attack is simple yet beautiful depictions of her subjects, however, they feel less portrait more image. Portrait artists are ten a penny, Niki has something very unique. Her use of inks and 3D mixed media make her work fresh and very current. She exhibits in all the right places including 'WAH nails' which is the Dalston go to for the east London Fashion set. She has commissions with all the right clients including Elle Magazine. We're of the opinion that this is the very start of what will prove to be an extraordinary career. View her website and blog

quick thank you to Niki for the info and also the use of all the images above.

1973 Loves...... Chris Cunningham ♡
This is a completely selfish post but I am wildly excited as I just got tickets for the fellas Christmas to go and see Chris Cunningham at the Roundhouse in London in February. Cunningham is an English video maker who was best known for his work with Warp Records more so with Warp artist Aphex Twin, Madonna and Bjork. His 'All is full of Love' video won loads of awards and was even nominated for a grammy....nice. He has been labeled 'the master of dark and disturbing'
He also has some incredible advertising campaigns under his belt, including his collaboration with Gucci (predictably my favourite) which sampled Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' and stared model of the moment Abbey Lee. It'a about as iconic as a modern fragrance advert gets if you haven't seen it look....
anyway now he does a live show.... and i'm going......and it's going to be nang......

We love love love this. I am a massive fan of Boy George, his bitchy silver tongued style of writing has me in stitches. Read his books they are well funny.

1973 Loves..... Emma Roach
Over the weekend I visited the Brighton Vintage fair and caught up with a talented trio of London ladies Sarah Magnay, Lucy Benson and Emma Roach. All are very talented... however, it occurred to me I had never looked at Emma's online work. Roach is a Set designer and costume maker extraordinaire. Her work is instantly recognisable from various Kylie videos, Vogue shoots and Westwood adverts. Roach has many, many strings to her talented bow, and she's well funny to boot.......

1973 Loves....Harriet De Roeper
Kingston graduate De Roeper's work is phenomenal. Her insect embroidered fabrics are
beautifully gothic, yet very modern.
Her love of print and tailoring are married perfectly in her collection of classic shirt and suit silhouettes marred by embroidered insect graffiti.images courtesy of catwalking.com
Her illustrations also have a very distinct style which reflects the tone of the collection perfectly.

1973 loves LFW
Here at 1973 we like to look at all aspects of design to inspire us and alert us to up-and-coming trends and colour pallets. London Fashion week is no exception. So much influence in design comes from this one event. As it trickles down to the high street and into different mediums you can't help but be inspired. Here are a couple of my faves......
MAN: I always really like the MAN show, even though the male models are by far prettier than the average woman. The tailoring at this show is always spot on. I must point out that I like the clothes for myself, I couldn't imagine my boyfriend in a sheer lilac top.

Marios Schwab: Mixing silk and leather, funny Joan Jett-esque mullets.. Beautiful graphics and use of contrasting fabrics

details: amazing embroidery by Jenny King whom my sister assists sometimes when she's not busying herself with having babies. Jenny's embroidery has a folky yet clean finish to it much like our Heidi range. (nice plug huh!?)
Photo: Gianni Pucci / GoRunway.comRichard Nicoll gorgeous colour pallet.... gotta love a bit of pleating
Photo: Yannis Vlamos / GoRunway.comMichael van der Ham: an incredible talent. Anyone that can make 3 dresses sewn together look so beautiful deserves all the praise they receive. His 'collaged' creations are not for the faint hearted but here at 1973 we love innovation.
