Interview with Andrew Lyons
What is your greatest achievement?
I think just being able to earn a living doing something that I love is my greatest achievement. It’s not something that everyone is able to do so I feel lucky for that, I still pinch myself sometimes.
How would you describe your work/style to someone who hadn't seen it?
Difficult question! I’m really unsure how to describe my work. Maybe as… HergĂ© inspired comic style figures living in geometric, abstracted landscapes?
What piece of advice would you give your 15 year old self?
I was a very quiet 15 year old, so I’d tell myself to get outside and have some fun! I’d also recommend studying Illustration instead of Fine Art, that would have saved me years of wondering what to do with myself.
When are you happiest?
When I’m with my three children, watching them draw and listening to them tell me stories.
What is the worst job you have had?
I’ve worked nightshifts on assembly lines where you’d watch the clock all night. Not much fun, but the worst was working in Macdonalds for a year. I wouldn’t want to do that again.
Who would play you in the movie of your life?
I guess I’d pick David Schwimmer. He’s seems a bit geeky and awkward like me.
What is your karaoke song?
I’ve only sung Karaoke once where I sang ‘King of the Road’ in a bar in Great Yarmouth. So that’d be my song.
What 5 things can't you live without?
My mandolin. My iPad. I also have a grey bag over my shoulder where ever I go to carry important things. A cup of Earl grey tea. Finally, my agents Handsome Frank because they are ace.
What is the greatest invention of all time?
I’m going to have to say the Internet. It’s just mind glowingly amazing. I love how some much information is available at the touch of a button.
If you didn't do what you do, what would you do?
I can’t imagine doing anything else other than drawing pictures. I think that I’ll always be doing this, even if one day they stop paying me to do it.

Interview with Adam Grason
What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement so far is my 6 month old son. But aside from his awesome- ness I would have to say winning my first global Addy award for my work with Krisy Kreme and landed Disney as a freelance client. I was a newbie in design and illustration and would never have guessed I would have had these opportunities.
How would you describe your work/style to someone who hadn't seen it?
I would describe it as vibrant, retro 50’s 60’s look and feel. An infuses on unperfected lines and a hand drawn aesthetic.
What piece of advice would you give your 15 year old self?
Stop flirting so much and start taking your art serious. I had an opportunity to go to a high school for my art and was doing really well in digital design. But I didn't apply myself. I was more interested in other garbage. Also for the love of God eat a vegetable.
When are you happiest?
When I’m in full stride in an illustration progress. There comes a point where you know the
piece is going to be successful. Whether it’s answering the problem your client has or if it’s
a personal project that shows your strengths. It’s a thing of beauty.
What is the worst job you have had?
Electrical...it sucked.
Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Ryan Gosling or Brad Pitt...ok realistically I would say John Krasinski we kind of look a
like...maybe.
What is your karaoke song?
Oh gosh...Dont stop believin' by Journey
What 5 things can't you live without?
My wife, my kid, espresso, my iMac, weights and whiskey
What is the greatest invention of all time?
I have to say the computer/internet. I couldn't do what I do without it. Also Whiskey....it’s
my jam.
If you didn't do what you do, what would you do?
I’m really into crossfit and health so I would honestly probably do that full-time and
compete. Or I would love to work for a distillery and learn how to craft whiskey and
bourbon. I find the whole process amazing. The whole thing is timeless.

Interview with Wijtze Valkema
What is your greatest achievement?
Right after college in 2005 I landed an internship at Asterik Studio in Seattle. They were and still are my design heroes and everything I learned and experienced during that year is still absolutely relevant in my work today.
How would you describe your work/style to someone who hadn't seen it?
It's a graphic shape-based, mid-century inspired illustration style that tries to capture the fun and boundaries of the screen printing process and translate it to other media. I dislike the term 'vector'.
What piece of advice would you give your 15 year old self?
Relax and enjoy the ride, because your three biggest dreams will come true. Also, you'll be making a living as an illustrator in 10 years time, so why not focus a bit already? Draw everyday. PS. Don't buy that 1990 Honda Civic, it's a piece of crap and will get your into a lot of trouble.
When are you happiest?
That time when summer turns into fall. Fun project up on the screen, cup of coffee on the
desk. The sounds of my family on the other side of the studio wall. Tony Rice on the
speakers.
What is the worst job you have had?
I worked at a flower farm for exactly one day and managed to cut off the top of my right
thumb. Lousiest job ever.
Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Can I pick Will Arnett? I really like him.
What is your karaoke song?
Ben E. King's 'Stand By Me'.
What 5 things can't you live without?
My worn-in brogues, my '86 Martin guitar, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 'The Hound Of The
Baskervilles', my bike, Tony Rice's 'Manzanita' album.
What is the greatest invention of all time?
The bicycle, bar none.
If you didn't do what you do, what would you do?
