Interview Lotta Nieminen

What is your greatest achievement?
Winning a big bulky PC at age 12 in a competition where kids were asked to design their own 12-page magazine.
How would you describe your work/style to someone who hadn't seen it?
My illustrations are textured, detailed and rich in color. My designs are simple, clean and often more restricted in terms of color palette.
What piece of advice would you give your 15 year old self?
Relax. It'll never be worse than this.
When are you happiest?
In bed on the occasional Sunday morning, after a well slept night, without having anywhere to go or anything to do.
What's the worst job you have ever had?
Selling tights at a department store at age 15 as a summer job. Knowing that much about pantyhose is a waste of brain space.
Who would play you in the movie of your life?
As long as Wes Anderson directs it, I'll leave the casting up to him.
What is your Karaoke song?
"I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston. Although if I start playing it at a party, it's usually a cue for me to stop drinking.
What do you dislike most about popular culture?
The publishing of the filthy celebrity gossip magazines I always buy at the airport.
What is the greatest invention of all time?
Avocado on toast.
If you didn't do what you do, what would you do?
After graduation, I applied to study not only graphic design, but also geography and French linguistics. Maybe a French speaking geographer?

Interview Leah Greenberg

What is your greatest achievement?
Im beginning to have awesome people contact me with fun illustration work.
How would you describe your work/style to someone who hasn't seen it?
I like to bring inanimate objects to life. I like to contrast between clean shapes and hand drawn textures. I try to keep my images happy and colourful. I like drawing fruit.
What piece of advice would you give your 15 year old self?
Dump him!

When are you happiest?
I am happiest when I am in my studio, listening to music, and crossing tasks off my checklist.
What is the worst job you have ever had?
I've been pretty lucky with part time jobs. My last job was working as a receptionist in a fancy hair salon, the people I worked with were fun and creative. Having great co-workers makes all the difference when working a job that has nothing to do with anything you're interested in.
Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Chloe Sevigny!
What is your Karaoke song?
Although I'm too bashful to actually sing, I'd love to belt out Party in the USA by Ms. Miley Cyrus.
What do you dislike most about popular culture?
The resurgence of the boy band and the inevitability of the man band.
What is the greatest invention of all time?
Wacom Tablet.
If you didn't do what you do, what would you do?
I wouldn't mind writing a series of short stories about the trials and tribulations of a Beatles cover band.

What piece of advice would you give your 15 year old self?
1. Listen to good music
2. The time you spend drawing is proportional to the quality of your artwork.
3. The time you spend traveling is proportional to the quantity of inspiration.

Watch Out London

A big special mention needs to go out to the AMAZING Holly who has just left 1973 after just over 3 years to become a costume stylist up in the big city. We were very sad to see her leave but excited for her as she will be doing what she loves. She did a great job setting up our social media and running our webshop and we are indebted to her for all the hard work she did. We will miss her cool ways, her loose tongue but most of all her general loviness. Go get em Holly x
